Screaming fans lined the theater walls for hours waiting for the release of the next installment of Twilight. My friends and I just happened to be a few of the most enthusiastic fans camping out till midnight.
We waited for hours playing the New Moon board game testing out trivia and listening to the official sound track discussing where they would place each song perfectly.
The wait was well worth it, from the moment we arrived till the minute we left not once were we in disapproval, every scene further engulfed me into the world of Twilight.
Immediately my breath was taken away with relief from fearing that the movie would differ to much from the novel as well as from the first film directed by Katherine Hardwicke.
New Moon was released on November 20, and was directed by Chris Wentz. All the additions to the saga will be made by a different director.
The up coming film Eclipse, set to be released on June 30, will be directed by David Slade. Breaking Dawn’s release date and director is to be announced at further notice.
The director was not the only new addition to the mega hit saga, the cast was joined by Dakota Fanning part of the Voultri Clan playing the feisty and malicious Jane and Alex Meraz as Paul a new pack member of Quiellet wolves who serve as protectors of humans along with several other newly introduced characters.
Fans fought hard for the choice of Jacob, fearing the original Taylor Laughtner would be replaced.
Even though Wentz’s style differed from that of Hardwick’s I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome, the movies attitude switched from pristine vampire into a rustic theme of wolves.
Although the movie more accurately followed the story line, surprises were still awaiting, making the audience gasp with horror, cringe with fright, as well as blush with admiration.
Fans went wild for the wolves of New Moon sparking the question we all thought would only be provoked by the novels, who should Bella choose buffed out werewolf Jacob or dazzling vampire Edward?
New Moon’s intense love triangle left fans caught in the middle, while others switched teams, leaving team Jacob roaring with approval.
Dedicated fans at the premiere displayed their choice of heart on their sleeves, making shirts as tributes to their team.
Due to Twilight’s success in the box office, New Moon’s budget was raised and so were the expectations. While Twilight brought in a gross of 70 million, New Moon has almost doubled while still in theaters.
The Saga based on Stephanie Meyers first series has ignited our generation into a new fad of vampires galore.
" I enjoyed the twilight saga and movie because it takes a break from the usual gore of vampire stories." Junior Ciara Barnes said.
Barnes and Nobles has a whole section set aside strictly for New Moon merchandise such as board games, bookmarks and jewelry boxes.
Hot Topic also provides fans with goodies ranging from authentic costumes and crest emblems to accessories, posters and fangs.
Not only has the Saga grown but so has the fan base. No longer are teen girls the ones drinking up the series, they have brought their moms and not to mention the rise in boy fans.
It was no surprise that the first in line, was a group of men who had been waiting out for the premiere since the theater opened at 8am a full 24 hours in advance to the showing.
" I never chose a team, but I was really into the fight scenes." Junior Erik Vela said.
Worldwide fans applauded, screamed and giggled while leaving the theater more than satisfied with their late night treat.
Whether you run with the wolves or fang it with the vamps, New Moon was a delight for all Twilight lovers.
