(April 26, 2002) -- ASB elections were held last Friday after a broadcast of the candidates’ speeches.  Out of the nine positions, only students running for ASB President will head for a runoff May 10.

ASB president candidate Michelle Mackerdichian said, “I’m looking forward to bringing in new original ideas to raise Clark’s school spirit.”

Mackerdichian’s opponent, Hasmig Ekmekdjian, wants “to improve the amount of student involvement during school activities.”

Similar to past years, the 17 candidates who ran for various positions were given 40 seconds to address the student body on camera before voting.

Though it is not yet determined who will be next year’s ASB president, other officers are already planning for the future.

Newly elected Director of Publicity Nairy Dereghishian said, “I hope to make next year more fun and make people be more into the activities by publicizing.”

ASB Student Store Commissioner Melody Chan said she “wants to improve the quality of food by putting healthy stuff” in the student store.

Others, like ASB Secretary Sara Sousani, are “looking forward to a wonderful year, full of experiences.”

Newly elected officers will attend a banquet May 30 where they will be installed into their new positions. Class elections will  be held May 10. Applications are now available in room 5214 and must be turned in by May 1. Campaigns start the following week.
