Purple Plague replaces Stang Gang as spirit organization
Advertising
The Purple Plague is set to kick off the school year promoting school spirit and encouraging students to show pride for SMHS.

This student-led organization is not yet a club but does hope to become one if there is enough student participation.

Seniors Drake Cales and Tyler Ryan, the two main students who are in charge of getting the Purple Plauge up and running, have high hopes for their organization.

“We started it to get spirit back into our school,” Cales said.

The club is being established not only for the good of Sunrise Mountain, but also to help students come out of their shell.

“I’m hoping it brings out people’s individuality,” Cales said. “[We want] to show people not to follow the crowd.”

The Stang Gang, a previous club on campus, was prohibited from starting again this year because of the reference to a gang in the name. The Purple Plague will be very similar to this club.

“It’s pretty much the same but just an organization,” Cales said.

This kind of sounds scary. The 'Purple Plague' sounds like a disease. Not a positive thing. I wonder why they named it that...would've been a good interview question :] Love you guys :]
