"Oh no! Timmy is eating cereal!" Dramatic music plays off in the back ground, while the main character breathes in a gasp of surprise. Wind randomly blows through the house. Causing the blinds on the windows to flap slowly in the wind. Timmy slowly brings the spoon of very detailed "Coco Puffs" into his mouth. The noise of the cereal crunches as he chews. The noise is protruded throughout the room. A small tear runs down his cheek for no apparent reason but adds to the dramatization being shown in this scene. Then suddenly Timmy notices he is being watched by the main character. He drops the spoon and the noise echoes across the floor.

Does this sound familiar? If anything is this dramatic it must be an anime. Anime are very good at over doing things when it comes to being dramatic. There always over dramatic  heart breaks, always over dramatic fights, always some sort of over dramatic romance, and so much more.

Am I just weird or does anyone else notice this?

I would say that, like most american network TV shows, it depends on the Anime. And from all the anime I've watched it seems to be suspensful rather than dramatic. But then again, maybe we just watch different anime.

To Jordan: That's what makes anime so fun, it's over-the-topness. Heck, the reason I love it is BECAUSE of it's exaggeratedness. It would be really boring if there wasn't any crazy moments. It would be like soap opera...only animated.

You have to remember that anime is just a cartoon, albeit a very detailed cartoon. Part of cartoon humor (or appeal) is the overexaggeration of it.

I can not possibly relate, as I do not indulge in the reading (or watching) of the anime. But, from what I've gathered as it has happened to cross my path is: Yes, EvErYthing about it seems Over-the-top.
